How it works

Fantasy esports gaming is similar to traditional fantasy sports but revolves around competitive video games (esports) like League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, and others. In fantasy esports, participants create virtual teams by selecting real-world professional esports players, typically within a budget or draft system. Points are scored based on the actual performance of these players in real-life esports tournaments or matches.

Step 1.

Player Draft or Selection

Participants either draft or pick players from different professional teams competing in esports tournaments. The selection process varies by platform, but it’s typically done within a salary cap (budget) or through a draft where players take turns choosing.

Step 2.

Team Composition

Teams are usually composed of players filling different roles depending on the specific game.

Step 3.

Scoring System

Points are awarded based on real-world performance metrics, such as kills, assists, objectives completed, or other game-specific stats. Different esports titles have different scoring criteria.

Step 4.

Competing

Fantasy esports leagues can be season-long or based on specific tournaments. Participants compete against each other, and the team with the highest points at the end of the season or tournament wins.
